| PDAnet I have a question before I buy PDAnet.... normally I sync my Q with my home office desktop PC... but while going on vacation I will be using my laptop. I understand that PDAnet connects through activesync... so how do I handle this?
If I install activesync on my laptop, but don't have it sync my contacts, tasks, etc. with anything (no Outlook installed), will it work alright, etc.?
Or, if I need to install Outlook then it won't overwrite my phone with a blank address book, etc. will it? (the first time I sync)
Just want to know what I am up against, still have 3 weeks before I go.
Thanks,
Bozz |

Thanks,
Bozz | That is exactly what I do. I have my home desktop that I syncing with Outlook. On my laptop, I don't have it syncing anything, and I am able to use PDANet on my laptop with no problems. |

Thanks,
Bozz | When you attach your phone to the laptop, ActiveSync will ask you if you want to set up sync or just connect. You just select the second option and you'll be fine. |

OK, so I will have to install ActiveSync on my laptop, but when I connect I just tell it to connect, not to sync?
Just making sure I get this right.

| Since your phone has a partnership to sync all your info to a desktop it won't by default do it to a second pc.
You have two choices for connecting a second pc. The phone can "remember" two partnerships. Your second one can be the laptop. This second partnership can just be an empty nonsynching one.
You can also just press esc at the partnership wizard and the phone will connect in guest mode. This too works for pdanet. The only reason guest mode might be inconvenient is if you have a password on the Q and it asks for it every time you connect. Setting up a partnership (even an empty one) would remember the password on the laptop for you. |

This is definately and app I will be buying when the free trial runs out in a week.
Thanks for the advice.

| Interesting that they came out with V2 that does proxy connections so you don't disconnect when the phone rings. If you bought recently it's a free upgrade.
Also interesting is that they took down version 1.81 which I am using and put back v1.80. I think 1.81 does some stuff v2 does. |
