And there it was.

I restarted my Q last night - PDANet is terribly fickle and causes me to reboot often - and a similitude of the top row was there when I called work this morning.

I guess like it's big brothers, WM5 likes a reboot after any changes.

Best regards,
.

Default ridiculous

It is just amazing how moto/verizon/microsoft missed such critical features. I need to dial a phone number.. and it has letters in it. How am I supposed to know what keys to dial. I should be able to hit the actual letter keys and the phone will translate them to numbers for me.

It's great that there is a 3rd party program to help with this (I need to install DialPad asap) but it's just unbelievable that this phone doesn't have things that any cheap free phone has (notepad, ability to dial phone numbers with letters in them, send txt messages at a specified time).

Hi Peter,

There are two different circumstances as I see it:
  1. When you wish to place a call to a number with letters (a la 1.800.DEN.TIST)
  2. When, in the middle of a call, you wish to access the 'alphabet' on your keypad (a la robot-lady says, "Please enter the first few letters of the last name you are trying to reach")
In the first case, the Q does provide a solution: when you begin typing the number you wish to dial, a row appears above the number and indicates which number corresponds to which letter(s).

In the second case, Motorola has dropped the ball; luckily the author(s) of dialpad et al have picked it up and provided 3rd party solutions.

I suggest that you dial 1.800 on your phone when you have a moment and see if this row appears at the top of your screen.

Best,
.

Thanks for the reply. Well I have already installed DialPad (which is great by the way... why didn't the phone come like that??) so I can't really test it properly. but I will say that last night I was trying to dial #data (to get my current data usage from verizon) and it was definitely NOT giving me any help as to which buttons were what. I had the verizon banner at the top and no 'key' to help me. I was trying to use the letter keys, hit the shift button... no go.

well at least now I have a fix... just surprises me. Why do the manufacturers not test these products better (or fix them in the subsequent software upgrade?). Hire a few people to run the phones through their paces.. and they would quickly get a list of fixes that would make these phones more easy to use.

thanks again.
