Default Newbie Has Several Questions, Please!

Being new to Smartphones and broadband here are several questions:

1) Verizon states in their contract, “If you exceed 5 GB/line/month, we presume use is for non-permitted uses and will terminate service.” Can someone please explain, in easy terms, what this means?
2) How many kilo or mega bites are in a gigabyte?
3) Someone on the site said as you download applications and e-mail attachments this process uses “data” that goes towards your monthly total. Generally speaking, how many “bytes” does opening a standard e-mail use?
4) How many “bytes” are used when surfing the web on the Q?
5) When downloading music, video, and 3rd party applications, you are incurring “bytes” correct, how can you tell how much of the 5GB total you are using?
6) What happens if they terminate service?
7) Someone said you receive 2000 E-mails for free. What does this mean? Do you get charged after that?
8) What’s up with this 2000 free text messages plan?
9) If you sign up for “alerts” on V-text.com, is each alert you receive charged as one incoming text counting against your monthly total?
10) Can your Q get a virus from either opening an E-mail attachment or loading software, like your home computer can? Do you need anti-virus software downloaded to your Q?

Sorry, I know this is a lot of questions. Any and all feed back will be truly appreciated. I thank you all in advance for your responses!!

1. This mean that Verizon may "terminate" your data access becuase they think you are using it inappropriately, like streaming or something like that.

2. 1000MB = 1GB

3. How many KB's it takes to open an email depends on how big the email is, if it has attachements and so on. It also uses KB's to first access the account if you are using an internet mail service such as Gmail or Yahoo mail and have NOT integrated it into Outlook.

5. You can check you Verizon account online to get an updated status of KB usage.

7/8. I believe these are one in the same. Right now if you call Verizon and ask them to add the "PDA text message plan" you will get 2000 free in and out of network text messages a month.

9. Yes as far as I know, each time you are alerted its considered a text messag if the alert is sent to your phone.

10. Yes you can. I am not sure of any software out yet to combat this maybe someone else can add more here. Windows Mobile 5 is fairly new I believe and that is the OS on the Q.

Hope this helps,

Rob

1. I was not aware the contract now had an exact amount listed. Before hearing this, I had only seen the "excessive use" clause. Unless you plan to stream video or something similar this should not be a concern. This would also apply to using the phone as a modem for say a laptop on a steady basis which would quickly make you exceed this amount. There is a package (extra $15.00) to allow use of phone as modem.
7. There is not a limitation on the emails that I have noticed. I definately exceed 2000/month.
