Default New to Q, Service problem...

I live in Westchester NY, and I used to have Nextel as my cellphone service... got reception EVERYWHERE. There are cell towers all over the place. I just switched to Verizon and the Q on Saturday and have noticed that I get the worst service. My roommate has the SLVR and Verizon and gets better reception than I do.

I keep hearing so many mixed reviews about the service of verizon and the Q.

A good friend of mine has the phone and highly recommended it, hes never had service problems with it.

I did the *228 program and update.

And Ive been told that it could be a problem with my phone, but I hear so many mixed reviews im worried...

Im still on my 15 day trial with the phone and I dont wanna have the phone sent out and replaced (since I ordered the phone over the phone) and have my 15 day trial run out and be stuck with horrible service.

Im also a college student so I dont live at home, but I also just found out that my mother's razor that she also got with the plan has 0 service within our house.

Basically I guess im looking for any input from people to aid in my decision, I really like the phone and its great for my hectic work schedule (i work in cosmetic R&D) as well as school.

Default

Got the same problem, although I live in rural Upstate. My RAZR has reception at my house, but my Q does not. Go Figure. I've tried 2 different Q's, as well as a VX6700 PPC, and a repeater. Non have worked. I can get the Q to "wake up" about 1/4 mile from my house. The fact that the RAZR can send and receive calls, tells me there is enough signal there. THe fact that the VX6700 could not receive calls almost tells me there's something in the Windows Mobile OS that is inhibiting call reception/initiation.

As a last ditch effort, I've got an external antenna on order which should be arriving early next week. I'll let you know if this helps.
