Question New Q, Email, beeps, and other thing I may not "get"

Just got a brand new verizon black q.

I was a treo 600 user for 24 months.....I liked the device...but as I settled into it I found I only used the email and teathering capiblilites and ocasionally the calculator.

I've been using the Q as much as possible over the past 2 days to figure it all out.

Here is where I need some expert advice:

1. Where are the email apps? I used snappermail on my treo and it was awesome.
a. The built in email app on q seems to have no user settings. I'm in sales and I need to be able to check mulitple pop accounts n one inbox.
b. I can't set perferences such as "leave message on server/delete message from server"
c. It seems I have to individually check each pop account. It would be nice to just hit send and receive once.
d. It seems that there is no way to turn off the beeping reminder if there is an email unopened. Does the Q really want me to look at every email that comes my way? And OK, but it seems I have to delete each and every message individaully.....I get alot of email and that would take forever...on the treo I just purged the inbox every few days and I had a clean inbox. So, I have to check the 5 personals emails and the 25 spam mails before a meeting just so it does beep. this is weird to me. (it's the three tone quick beep)

Are there any third party email apps. I'll pay for something that makes life easier.

The menu structure is not very intutive, But I'm ok with that.

The Phone does work great as a PHONE! Yeah I take alot of sales call on it and do not think I could go back to the treo quality call.

Oh yeah, and PDAnet works like a charm on my wife's pc (very fast) and on my mac laptop with blue tooth (very convenient). Nothing beats being on-line on the road....

I do need to figure out a way to ease the email mangement, I hate to goto the 6700

Any advise would be greatly helpfull and I'd thank you guys in advance. Reading this site was very helpfull in my decesion to get the Q.

I'm not really aware of other ones as the stock one fits all my needs. Other people may provide recommendations.

a. The built in email app on q seems to have no user settings. I'm in sales and I need to be able to check mulitple pop accounts n one inbox.

You can check as many POP3 inboxes as you would like. Based on your questions below, I'm not sure you've hit the right-softkey yet. On a side note, since you are using Verizon, I suggest you check out WirelessSync. It provides PUSH POP3 access so your phone is wasting time polling a server -- the moment WirelessSync detecs a new e-mail, it's sent right to your phone. (If you are receiving hundreds of e-mails a day, you might not want to use PUSH). For wireless sync, go to http://www.wirelesssync.vzw.com. To add POP3 accounts, go into Messaging -> Outlook E-mail -> Menu (Right soft key) -> Options -> (E) New Account and follow the prompts.

b. I can't set perferences such as "leave message on server/delete message from server"

I don't think the Q will delete messages from the server. You can set this option in WirelessSync though.

c. It seems I have to individually check each pop account. It would be nice to just hit send and receive once.

WirelessSync will accomplish this.

If you go to Start -> Settings -> Phone Settings -> Unread Message Alert, change the value to 0.

It'll grow on you.

The Phone does work great as a PHONE! Yeah I take alot of sales call on it and do not think I could go back to the treo quality call.

God bless it... it's nice to now be able to travel cross-country and not take Vacation. If it was only fast enough to support VoIP over a VPN...

I do need to figure out a way to ease the email mangement, I hate to goto the 6700

WirelessSync :-) It's one of the few things that makes $45.99 justifyable. If they charged for it, I think I'd have a stroke.

Any advise would be greatly helpfull and I'd thank you guys in advance. Reading this site was very helpfull in my decesion to get the Q.

Sweet, good feedback. I tried Verizon sync along time ago when it came out and never tried it again.

I found one answer that I have not seen posted on this forum yet (although I've seen the question)

Here is a way to delete multiple email messages:

1. Press Start (left soft key)
2. Scroll to and select Messaging
3. Scroll to and select desired account
4. Click on Menu (right soft key)
5. Scroll to and select Folders
6. Scroll to and select desired folder
7. Click on Menu (right soft key)
8. Scroll to and select Delete All
Note: An alert displays asking if you are sure that you want to permanetely delete all messages
9. Click on Yes to delete or No to cancel

I'm looking at wireless sync right now.

It looks like verizon downloads all my personal email to their own servers, yikes. Do you worry about this?

Are there other downsides to wireless sync? Just curious

I don't really worry about it because if Verizon was really concerned about storing my info, all of my info is going through their network annyway so they would already have it. But like I said before... WirelessSync is one of the few "value-added" things that make the steep Unlimited package worth it to me. Also, since they've updated the WirelessSync app, the only "bug" I've had was when their authentication server went down and I couldn't get my e-mail for a few hours.

Default I'll give it a go...

Ok....Here's my work around..

I created a test email called verizon@mydomain.com. I set-up other emails to forward to this email so I can just turn it off if I do not like the service...

I may be too precautious...but hey...

System Tools or Repair get rid of those sounds regarding your unopened Emails/Texts

go to:

Start>
Settings>
More>
E Unread Mesage Alert>
and turn the thing OFF!
Really bugged ME too before I found it.

AND TELL ME, have you stumbled on how to do DELETE-ALL on emails? this one at a time delete is awful.

thanks from RickTheHam

Question I don't have "DELETE ALL" that you refered to in my Q's Email menu??

Can you double check these instructions you shared? On my Q, I do not see "Delete All" in your line 8 below. All I have is the delete single email option and yech - too much effort one at a trime. thanks,

RicktheHam

He is correct in his step-by-step instructions --- this is also oulined in the Wiki. The basics are is while you're reading your messages and your in the message list (not actually in a message, but seeing a list of messages). Click:

Menu (Right Soft)
Folders (to get a view of your folders (sent box, Inbox, drafts, etc))
Highlight the folder (normally Inbox)
Menu (Right Soft)
Delete All

This came available after the MOL2 update I believe.
