| New Motorola Update for Sprint Q I was checking for a new MOL update using the Motorola software program, as I do every so often, and much to my surprise, this morning, the Motorola Software update program said there was a new one available.. I had already done the initial MOL update back in March...so I went for it!!! My phone made it through the update process just fine, but I haven't had time to play with it yet, so I have no clue as to any of the details of this newest release for Sprint....but fellow Sprint users should check it out!!! I don't think I'm off my rocker, but who knows ;) Brian..a.k.a. Hondaguy4ever77 |

| home screens How do you get home screens on your Q. Like the Texas Tech logo you have. I'm looking to put the San Antonio Spurs logo on my Q (sprint) but can't figure out how. Thanks. |

| Official Motorola Position I e-mailed Motorola and asked about some of the difficulties with updating the Q. I mentioned to them that I was using the 32 bit version of Vista with the appropriate sync program.
Normally I'd not post a direct response from customer service but felt this should be an exception:
Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support, we appreciate your request and also we apologize for any inconvenience you may experience with your product.
Regarding your inquiry, below you will find the requirements to install the Motorola Software Update Tool
What you need:
* 400MHz or higher processor speed
* 256MB RAM or higher
* Approximately 250MB of available hard disk space
* Available USB port (USB 1.1 or higher)
* Internet connectivity (Internet Explorer)
* Windows XP, (Service Pack 2) or Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4)
* For Q devices only, ActiveSync is required prior to using Software Update
Unfortunately, Windows Vista is not supported by the Update yet since it is not compatible with Active sync and uses different Drivers.
Motorola is aware about this situation and is working hard to release an update that can run on windows Vista. Unfortunately we don't have a time frame to release it yet. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Please do not hesitate to contact us back if you have any other question.
Guess my only questions are to Motorola are:
1. If you are trying to recover your previous market position now occupied by Nokia, why downgrade customer support. From what I could find out, most if not all customer support has been outsourced to a large call center company. On my first call to them, I was on hold nearly 4 hours - I'd never have stayed that long but wanted to see how long it would really take. I was inquiring about another product in the cellular line, and found that the representative didn't know a thing about it. Lots of verbiage and apologies but no knowledge at all. At the end of the conversation, I was urged to call back should I have further questions. Well I would because none were answered properly before but one must pick one's battles.
2. Yes, the Q has been out a while and will be replaced by a new one with Windows Mobile 6. You have other customers out here who don't really need the new OS but your lack of desire or motivation will force them to an upgrade. That is not the best customer service. Vista has been out long enough for them to write the appropriate code for the mobile manager.
As an employee in the communications industry I am familiar with balancing costs and time. I really don't think it would hurt to have released a Vista compatible update.
Excuse the rant, but felt that I had to make the comments to keep others from spending countless hours on the phone with Motorola only to get no answers to questions. In fairness they did provide an auto response that it would take 3 business days to answer my e-mail. It was sent on Friday 8/3 and was answered yesterday, 8/7. Yes, they clearly post the compatibility standards on the update, but still the question pends, what happened to good customer service? I can only guess that it has given way to wanting to be #1, but not wanting to do what it takes to get there. Motorola has a reputation for building stellar communications equipment. I've written many sole source justifications for large purchases from them, because they were above the rest. Now they struggle to maintain a reputation that will undoubtedly suffer at their own hand. |

Thanks. | just create a new background image with the logo you want and go to homescreen settings and change the background from default to the image you made and stored in \application data\home
that would be the quickest and easiest |

| The updater does work on Vista but for Sprint.
There are two types of updater.. One is for Verizon and then second is for all other carriers (sprint, alltel..telus ect). The verizon one downloads the firmware with it and the other one does not.
About outsourcing.. i agree.. but who doesn't do that anymore? Quote:
