Informative Need Help With New Phone Please

hey everyone, I'm a newbie here and I just got my black moto q for verizon. I got it used on ebay, but it is in cosmeticall perfect shape. Upon using the phone for a bit (which supposedly had documents to go, ct alarm clock, and 1-calc calculator) I noticed that many of the programs that were supposed to be on the phone aren't there or have errors when trying to open them...I know that the previous owner had tried doing some reg. edits and added some new homescreens and add-ons for it. Also, when I try listening to a ringtone to pick which one I want to use the phone will exit out of it after about 5 seconds...It also does the same thing when using the camera. The seller told me that this is just the phone timing out so that it can conserve battery, is this true??
I was just playing pac man on the phone last night, and now there is an error trying to open that..would doing a master reset and starting from new fix this? Has anyone ever heard of this?
I had originally planned on hacking the phone anyways, but if this phone has as many problems as I think it does I may just send it back. Just want to get a few opinions first. THanks in advance

if your getting errors with programs installed by a previous owner then you should try the master reset to clear the phone of any issues so you can start fresh. a master reset will erase EVERYTHING so copy any homescreens, ringtons and what not you want off the phone and put them back on after your done reseting the phone....

thanks, I think that I will do this..will this cause any errors or should the phone be fine after a master reset? I have not activated the phone for VZW yet, would it be a good idea to reset the phone first before activation? I have never hacked a phone before, do you know if there is a part of the forum that would help out a newbie with doing reg. hacks? I also have no idea how to put programs onto the phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I put the minisd card that was included with the phone into my computer and discovered that that's where the documents to go programs were kept, but they still do not open on the phone, is there a special way to access programs and files that are stored in a memory card other than just opening the start menu?
I really appreciate the quick reply.

ps. All of the programs, ringtones, etc. that were supposed to come with the phone are included on a separate disk...should I keep these or just download new? I believe I have everything I need to get started over, I have the mobile phone tools cd v3.0 and I have the USB cord. Thanks again.

wow thats alot...ok...
if the phone isnt activated yet you can master reset and it shouldnt be a problem.
check the motorola hack section of the moto q forum that has a list of them and how to do them.
installing programs arent that hard...check out the new user guide in the moto q forum that will tell you how to go about doing that.
if you install a program on the SD card you can access it the same way you do a program that is installed on the phone directly...through the start menu.
a master reset will erase the entire phone and put back the original ROM portion...so there would be no reason to have to reinstall anything from a disk....unless whoever you got them from made a CD of the custom homescreens and ringtones....if not they will be put back after a master reset.

I just tried installing mobile phone tools, and I keep getting a cyclic redundancy error after about 1/3 of installation that reads as follows...

Component: program files
File Group: Program Data
File: E:\mPTools\US\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

has anyone else had this problem? I'm guessing I was just sent a bad cd..is there anywhere else I can get this program without having to actually purchase it?

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate the quick replies I have recieved also.
