Just wondering, If I do a master reset on a phone that already has Reg. edits on it and installed programs, will the phone still function normally as if I had just bought it from Verizon? Should I perform a reset before activating it with my telephone number? Also, this may seem like a stupid question, but if I do a master reset can I re-hack the phone? If I make a mistake hacking will a master reset fix my mistake and just allow me to start over?

THanks in advance!

If you do a Master reset it will go back to the way it was when you bought it. This will erase all hacks you have done and any apps you have installed yourself. Yes you can rehack after the master rest.

Updates are Window Mobile software, NOT firmware on the device, right?

If that's the case, a master reset will put your phone in the factory default state (sans any updates). Master Reset is the equivalent to doing a reformat / reinstall Windows on a desktop / laptop. So if some mod goes wrong, master reset away and you can start fresh, no worries.

what previous posters have said.. a Master Reset is to put the phone in "out of the box" config, note all customization will be lost.. also your contacts. so make sure to backup .cab (installation files of programs) files and other important stuff.

to "hack" the phone you can use PHM Regedit (http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit) free, or Resco (http://www.resco.net)

I am not 100% sure if the updates are WM or firmware, how would I be able to tell ?

I bought the phone used from Ebay, so if I clear EVERYTHING it will not be a problem to me because I have not put anything into the phone yet, I just want to be sure the phone works correctly. Do you know if either PHM or Resco is better than the other, or are they basically the same?

Thank you.

I have only used one, but I bet they are pretty similar. If you already have one use that.

does anyone know if doing a master reset will affect the phone if it's on the vzw network? What i mean by this is should I activate the phone first and then do the reset, or just perform the reset and then activate?

THanks.
