Default Need help manipulating Q contacts list from PC

When I sync'd with my desk top there were a lot of "unwanted" contacts and e-mail addresses loaded onto my Q that have just added clutter. I would like to delete many of these. I thought that there was a way to connect the Q and open "mobile device" and then open a contacts file to modify/delete them with the pc. When I try to open files, I only get the option to see the properties or cut/delete the file but not open it. Any help would be appreciated.

I ultimately want to load the latest Q software upgrade which I understand can cause you to lose all data so I will need to do a back-up after I fix the contacts list. I assume that I can just do a back-up on the Verizon website.

Thank you for your help.

Your best bet is to just delete the unwanted clutter on the Q through the contacts app. The problem is, unless you delete them in Outlook, anytime you sync they'll be re-added. However, you can get around that by doing this:
  1. Clean up the clutter.
  2. Go into ActiveSync on the Q (Start > ActiveSync) and go into Options.
  3. Uncheck "Contacts" from the sync options.
Now your Q will be free of the unwanted contacts and won't pick them back up. You can also go into ActivSeync on your PC and uncheck Contacts as well.

As for the MOL update. Yes, it's like a Master Reset, but you should already have the latest update available through Verizon (I believe that's MOL3, te latest update from Motorola).

Thank you for the help. I will try it. It's too bad you can't do this from the PC. Working it from the phone is a pain.

You can easily do it from the PC. Just open Outlook and delete or move the contacts you don't want to another folder. Then sync your Q again.
