| My Q is going back I'm probably going to get attacked for this, but I believe these forums are a place to share honest opinion, and in this case, it is simply my opinion. One user.
My Q is getting put in the box and shipped back today. I tried desperately because I love it's look, it's "cool" it gets noticed, to find a reason to replace my Treo 700wx, but I simply can not.
In a nutshell there is NOTHING I can do on the Q that my Treo won't do. In fact with the picture mail hack working perfectly on the treo there are some things the treo does that the Q won't do.
Additionally I can edit modify and view documents, spreadsheets and such, I have picture shortcuts for my 5 most called numbers, and frankly I like the bulk of the Treo better.
To be fair, I loved the Q, albeit it a little "small" for me. I thought the screen was crisp and bright. I thought moving around the screen using the wheel and nav buttons was a breeze, didn't miss the stylus at all...
But it simply can't do what my Treo can do. Bad phone? No, just not up to the Treo in terms of over all capabilities.
I have a unique relationship with my Sprint Business Rep, in that I can order and try all new products for 60 days, basically risk free. After a week with the Q putting it through all the tests, I can't find a compelling reason to replace my 700wx. I'll have to wait until Sprint launches the 750.
I have no loyalty to Treo or Palm brands. I buy a new gadget about every 6 months. My most recent history is Treo 700wx, Treo 700p, Blackberry 7130, PPC 6700, Hitachi G1000, etc... So there is no brand loyalty you're getting from me, just form and function.
So, had I not had the Treowx, would have been inclined to keep the Q, and if you're not a heavy business user needing documents and such, the Q will be fine. But of document editing, picture sending, and over all convenience of the phone, the Treo 700wx wins in my book.
The one thing I will miss is the voice recognition capability the Q offered through the blue tooth headset. I simply pushed the button on the headset and it starts the voice command. Treo 700wx doesn't do that. But that's the ONLY thing I'm giving up for the Treo over the Q and with the shortcut buttons right on the screen, I can do without it.
I'm happy to entertain questions from users who are considering making the leap. I'm no expert, just one guy who uses them alot, with an opinion. |

| As someone who owns both a Treo 700p and a Moto Q - both on Verizon - I would say that the Moto Q is the better phone, the Treo is the better PDA. Yes, the Q doesn't do document editing natively, but from my standpoint that's not terribly important - I still can't imagine editing an important document on my PDA or phone and emailing it off to a client or colleague (call me old fashion), so that lack of functionality isn't important to me.
I definately prefer the signal strength and call quality of the Q to the Treo, but prefer all the camera functions of the Treo to the Q. If you are taking and sending alot of photos with your phone, the Q handles MMS like a tortured afterthought.
I think the O/P and I probably share the same assessment but lean different ways. |

I definately take and share a lot of photos, and that was probably the single most important feature to me. Albeit with a hack.
I've found no difference (noticable) in call quality between the two where I live.
I agree I don't do a whole lot of editing but I do view a lot, and unless you download documents to go on the Q i couldn't look at excel or word and pdf docs. Even after the download the excel sheets don't look right. And I live by excel spreadsheets, so viewing in the identical format was essential. |

| Considering the affiliation of the owner of this site, I doubt you'd be subject to any attacks here...
Good luck with whatever smartphone you choose... |
