Rating or review musings of a new Q user

Having just acquired my Q yesterday, as a New Every Two replacement for a well-worn LG VX-7000, I have a few initial thoughts to share:

What the H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS were Verizon's interface "designers" (and I use the term VERY loosely!) thinking when they created those ugly-ass home screen background image/color scheme combinations? They have got to be the most amateurish pieces of slop art I've ever seen in my life! I'm also surprised that I'm forced into picking a background image, i.e., "none" is not an option.

The same goes for the ringtone "composers" -- most of the supplied ringtones make a very professionally-constructed, and obviously businessperson-intended, device sound like a cheap Casio keyboard crossed with a wedding singer! I'll be transferring over the "24" CTU ringtone that I loaded onto my VX ASAP (along with many others).

Not to lump all of the blame on Verizon, how the heck could Microsoft make the decision that a "Smartphone edition" of Windows Mobile doesn't need Notepad? Bad, bad, BAD move... but one that I'll be fixing shortly, based on reviews of the notepad apps that are out there.

Finally, only one alarm? Fer chrissakes, my VX supports three permanent alarms plus a single-use "quick alarm"... again, stupid move on the developers' part.

Don't get me wrong, all in all, I'm glad I chose this device. Fit & finish appear to be excellent, documentation & support look good, and user acceptance seems high.

My first purchases, other than the aforementioned software enhancements, will probably be a Seidio 3200 mAh battery (anyone have any positive/negative experiences with this? does it stick out any further than the OEM "extended" battery?), a 2GB miniSD card, and a belt case to replace the marginally-usable OEM holster (I like the inward-facing mount of the OEM, but the damn thing is almost impossible to release from its grip to answer a call quickly).

I'll post more as I think about it...
