Default Mono Only on Headphone

I'm new to the Q and am trying to use either the Shure 4t headphones made for cell phones or regular headphones with an adapter for the cell phone jack but am only getting sound in the right ear.

I've tested my headphones on other phones and they work fine.

Could my phone jack be broken or am I missing a setting somewhere? I've searched the faq's and manual for info but have come up with nothing!!

Any info would be appreciated.

you don't have the right heaset or the right configuration on the rings on your 2.5mm thats why it only comes out of the right speaker. how many rings you got....should be 3.

An easy way to tell if it's the right jack is the number of black lines on the plug. The Q requires 3 black lines, most headsets have 2. I'm sure someone more technical can tell you why, but I had the same problem and had to buy the headphones from Verizon.

Interesting, I've never noticed it but my adapter only has two, but the Shure has three.

Could there be a setting somewhere within the phone?

It also depends on a configuration with the way the headphones were made. The 3 rings are for left, right, and voice is what my Motorola rep told me. Also, if your adapter does have 3 rings but still does not work that is because the manufacturer made the wrong ring for the wrong setting...i.e. swapped voice and left sound. Both will not work then. Not to sound like a salesman but there is a pair at Verizon for $30.00. However the pair I prefer are $37.00 @ Best Buy and are located in the headset section. They are sony and say on them Motorola compatible they work with my Q and have multiple ear molds for comfort and ALSO have the 3.5mm adapter included.

I found an adapter that will work with the Shure headphones. I was using the headphones with my Treo 700w and they cost me $150 so I didn't want to get rid of them. Below is the link with the adapter model number:

Thanks for everyones help!!
