Memory Card hurting Memory?

I need some help,

When I try to access my Contacts, my Q always almosts freezes up (meaning it takes about 10 minutes for it to respond to one button push.) When I take my 2 Gig SD memory card out, I can zip around my Contacts with no problem. I only have about 6 contacts stored and they all have their custom ringtones and pictures stored in the phone's memory, not the card's. Why would taking the card out, allow me to access the Contacts section faster? Thanks for the help!

I have this problem occasionally but a simple reboot of the phone fixes it.
