| many questions(syncing music/minisd card) Hi everyone, i am really computer illiterate and don't know much about the q. i purchased a q off ebay about 2 months ago, i did not receive an active sync cd for set up. i want to know is this really necessary for use of my phone, i really just want to use the phone to store music and basic calls and txt messaging. i have a 1mg mini sd chip and when i try to sync music it tells me the phone is out of storage and i can't tell if the phone is recognizing the chip at all. if someone could give me step by step instructions on what to do to get music on my phone i would appreciate it, if active sync is really needed any idea how i could install to my computer as i did not get this with my phone when purchased. any help is very appreciated.
thanks in advance |

thanks in advance | You don't need Active Sync to get music on your Q. Just put your SD card into a card reader and copy the music over. Then put your card back in your Q, and update your library in Windows Media Player. It should be able to access the music then.
If you want Active Sync, you can get it at either windowsmobile.com or microsoft.com. |

It will let you connect your card to your PC so that you can copy files from your PC to the card. Once connected, you can open up Windows Explorer on your PC, and your storage card will show up as a separate drive that you can drag and drop your music files into. When you're done, take the card out of the card reader and put it back in your Q. Open Windows Media Player on your Q and update your library, and the music on your card will show up on your Q. |

If you have Active Sync installed, and you have your Q connected to your PC, you can use Windows Explorer on your PC and drag and drop music files on your Q. But you need to copy them to the storage card, not the Q itself. When you access your Q from Windows Explorer on your PC, it shows up as "My Mobile Device". If you click on this click, you can access the different subfolders, once of which is "Storage Card". That's where you want to copy the music to (I would suggest creating a further subfolder in the "Storage Card" folder called "My Music" or something like that to keep things organized). |

thanks for all the suggestions it seems a get a step closer and then nothing goes right, i dont know if it makes a difference but my compute is running microsoft vista, i when i go thru windows explorer i see motorola q but when i search the subfolders it says nothing about a storage card, i dont think my phone is recognizing that its there, and the more i try to sync to my device it only saves about 3-4 songs on my phone and takes up all the storage. any more advice. if you are tired of trying to help i will understand, thanks |

I know that with Vista, you don't need Active Sync. You would use built-in Windows Mobile Device Center, I believe. |

| if anyone's still reading this thread I am experiencing the same problem as this guy was. I can manually add stuff to the card via a card reader, but the Q can't find the memory card no matter how many times I restart it/"update library"
I'm running a 4gb Mini sdhc.
It doesn't show up if I open the phone's drive on my computer (through vista) or when I try and change the default storage of music/pictures.
Is my phone just messed up? |
