Press in the thumbwheel on the right, and turn up the earphone volume all the way.

The earphone volume is the main volume control of the phone.

This is hard to explain, but he is asking you to do something extra besides just turn up the thumbwheel. On your homescreen with no programs running, push and hold in the thumbwheel until you get a volume screen. Maximize this volume meter and it will fix your problem.

Sorry if this is unrelated but I haven't read in the manual or seen through searches on here if you can toggle between the speaker phone output and the earpiece output on the phone with Windows Media Player output.
