To amdin, Moderator and users,
Please try this at your own risk and
Etc... However this application attached to this thread falls somewhere in the limit of copyright violation. The application does come built in the Samsung SGH-i300 as you have the camera application on the Q. In any case if anyone seems to find this illegal i will remove the attachment but leave the tutorial.
The Samsung SGH-i300 is a windows mobile smart phone that has a cool little program that use the Irda port to learn remote control signal. Funny enough i was skeptical that it would work with my moto Q but it did.
After installing the program, you must enable incoming infrared signals to your moto q. go to Stat>Settings>Connections>Beam amd cheack "Receive incoming beams".
The moto Q have only 5 keys that works with the application:
- Home
- Back/Erase
- Up
- Down
- Select/Ok
note: the screen keypad of the samsung doesn't really match the one of the motorola q. Green is
q blue is
samsung keypad,
Home=
Volume Up,
Up=
Up,
Select/Ok=
Ok,
Down=
Down,
Back/Erase=
Power. It might be irrelevant as those 5 keys can be setup to do anything but it does help to know which ones work. I've only created custom profiles as the motorola q doesn't support all the keys of the samsung unit.
To create a custom profile for example, you launch the application then Menu>Add Device>By self-learn. Enter the name of the device you cant to control like "cable" or "tv" then click "ok".
Now let's do some functions learning on the Q. Let's say i want to teach my moto q how to turn on/off my tv. i create a custom profile as explained above and call it Tv but call it whatever you may like. Now you should see a keypad on the samsung keypad on you screen. Press the "Back/Erase" key on your Q and you will be given a set of instructions. Read it so you will understand better if my explanation is too vague. Hold your Tv remote controle with your left hand and you motorola Q with the right hand. Be ready to press the power button on you tv remote and make sure that your remote infrared sensor points directly to you motorola Q infrared sensor. Once click "Start" and you press briefly the power button on your tv remote.
If done properly, the moto q will prompt a successful note on the screen: however if you are too slow and takes more than 3 seconds, it will fail and you will have to do it again. Now go to you tv and press the "Back/Erase" key on your motorola q and you tv should turn on/off. Do the same for whatever other function you want you phone to learn. on other keys.
note that the Q has its Irda on its left side. you will have to turn your phone sideway in order to have optimum signal strength to the device you want to control.
