How to turn off those pesky "smart" buttons?

Man, it bugs me when the "Voicemail" or "Messages" appears on the right button. Often, I don't want to check my voicemail or check my messages at that instant. I often want to click on "Contacts" on the right softbutton to make a call.

How do you disable the "smart" soft buttons? Or how do you lock "Start" on the left and "Contacts" on the right?

I don't like my phone so smart that it "thinks" it knows what I want to do gives me a soft button that I don't want.

I've gotten into the habit of hitting my space bar ket and that brings up a screen that lets me start to type in a name I'm looking for. I know it doesn't answer your question, but it might be a good work around for you.

i dont know that if you can lock it to just have start and contacts no matter what happens. although what you can do is hit the red power button once and it should clear that and put the contacts right back to the screen.
