Default Had some trouble with my Q, and now the Internet doesn't work!

Today I was using my Q as normal, no problems, did a little txting, some browsing, and a phone call or two. I took it out of my pocket in the afternoon sometime, and it was off. On a rare occasion it shuts off out of no where, so I pressed the power button. The Verizon logo came on, but then the screen went all white. I waited a little but, and when nothing changed, I held the power button until it shut off. Then it wouldn't turn back on. I kept trying, but nothing worked. I took the battery out, put it back in, left it out for a couple of minutes, and tried all of these things repeatidly, then finally got fed up and decided to stop wasting time in the middle of the store I was in and continue shopping lol

About a half hour later, I took my Q out, pressed the power button, and saw the Verizon logo! Then the screen got these weird pink vertical stripes all over it, and eventually went completely pink. I went through the same steps that I did when it went all white, but nothing brought it back.

When I got back in the car, I plugged it into my car charger, and it booted right up! It was running very slow, and all of the settings were gone! My programs were still there, as was all of my data, e-mail, contacts, schedule, etc. Except almost everything in Settings was set back to defaults (Profiles, home screen, ringers, etc.), certain settings like Receive incoming beam and Unread message alert were not defaulted. After fixing all of that, I let it charge.

I went to use the Internet a little later, and it doesn't work! I have since made/received calls, sent/received texts, but the Internet doesn't work! When I try to visit a page in IE, I get this error:
Quote:
Your Internet connection is not configured properly. Please verify your settings in Data Connections.
So far, I've dialed *228, taken option 2, rebooted several times, dialed *228 and took option 1, cleared the temp files in IE, and deleted the two proxies that were in settings>>connections>>proxy besides VZW browser. none of this has worked.

Here are some settings that may be important, let me know if you guys need more info:

IE>>Menu>>Tools>>Options>>Connections
  • Automatically detect settings is checked
  • 'The Internet' is the selected network
Start>>Settings>>Connections>>Proxy>>VZW Browser (now the only Proxy)
  • Connects from: The Internet
  • Connects to: WAP Network
  • Proxy: gw.vzwwap.com:8080
  • Type: WAP
  • User name: MobileDeviceNumber@vzw3g.com
  • Password: 12 *'s
Start>>Settings>>Phone Settings>>Network
  • Network Select: Automatic B
  • GPS: 911 only
I've tried searching these forums, and then I tried Google, and I couldn't find any answers!! I really don't want to take the phone to the Verizon store unless it's absolutely necessary. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please let me know! I'm comfortable making any changes that you guys deem necessary, including changes to the registry.

Thank you!

Have they made you try a master reset of the Q yet?

Nope.. I did read some places on the web that it fixed people's problems.. I am really trying to avoid it though, because I have alot of apps and it's hard to get the thing to sync with Vista's fickle mobile device center! I'm sure it's a setting somewhere or something, was hoping someone would know what it was

Well, if you are sprint or verizon, I'd suggest sprite backup. It seems that Q's from these providers are busted in some way, shape or form. Its almost a necessity and they should market this software with the Q (it would save their company a fortune in replacement costs and customer retention would be much higher)but I don't think you can get aroudn this one man, in all honesty.

Hi Jimmy,

How did you end up fixing your data connection problems? I'm having the same exact issue right now. I can call and text SMS but no internet, and no MMS texting. I'm clueless as to what to do. Earllier I found a reset setting that would bring the phone back to 0 point. I was thinking that would delete all my contacts. Am I right?
Hope to hear from someone. Thanks, Dan

Hey! Unfortunately, I ended up doing a master reset. That might be what you're talking about, it erases everything and brings the phone back to how you got it from the Verizon store. It will already be programmed and all, but you will not have your contacts, installed apps, calendar info, everything will be gone. Do you use wireless sync? If you use it, it keeps your contacts, calendar, and e-mail in sync with wireless sync's servers. When you do the master reset, and then run wireless sync for the first time on the phone, after installing it will ask you if you want to load all of the data from the servers back onto the phone. In under 10 minutes you will have all that vital info back on your phone and ready to go, and then you just have to focus on getting your apps back on and your settings back to the way you like them.

If you don't use wireless sync and have a data plan with Verizon, it's free, so you should be using it. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to set it up now since you have no data connection. When I had my problem, my phone would go on the net when hooked up to my computer via USB, so you might be able to plug it in to your computer then set up wireless sync, sync all your contacts and things, then do the master reset, and load them back down. Another option would be to sync your contacts, calendar entries, and e-mail with Outlook, again through your computer.

Yet another option would be to get a backup solution like Sprite, and back everything up, then load it back on after the reset. That should save everything from contacts to calendar entries to apps to text messages.

Good luck, and let me know if you need any more help!

I had the exact same problem a day or two ago, and I have yet to resolve it.

I believe mine happened when I simultaneously ran out of memory and battery. I lost data that had recently (the last couple hours) been received, the settings went back to default, and I was unable to use IE.

I plan on backing everything up via sync and mobile extender, and doing the Moto firmware upgrades (since I never did any of them and am running the first firmware from the initial batch of Verizon Qs).

I'll report more if I find any additional info, but that's really all I know for sure.
