Default re: gmail problem

tashi,
from all I've been able to find out, the Q and Gmail just don't get along. on these forums, the usual solution that's offered is to get to your gmail via the browser. It does integrate very well, but I have the problem of a weak signal at my house. I've bombarded somebody else's inbox more than once because my cell was trying over and over to connect. also, if you don't have an unlimited data plan, it could get expensive to do it that way. I'd much rather download and send/receive all at once, then read and respond at my leisure. I'm just waiting for Q and gmail to work it out.

Make sure you have these settings:

Your Name: However you want it to display.
E-mail Address: abcd@gmail.com
User Name: abcd@gmail.com
Password: whatever it is
Domain: nothing
check "save password"
Server Type: Pop3
Account Name: Gmail or whatever you want it say in the list
Network: The Internet
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com:995
check "Require SSL connection"
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com:465
check "Outgoing server requires authentication"
Open Outgoing Server Settings and check "Require SSL connection"
Choose any of the download options and frequency

You should have no problem connecting to gmail...only bad thing as the gmail conversation mode doesn't work well when you reply to an email. The message disappears from the Q but is still on the gmail website. It's convenient to use when you get an email but I don't reply through the Q unless I really need to or don't care if the original message disappears from the Q. Hope this helps.

Default tried that stuff...

tried this before. more than once. using all those settings. no dice. I just have a blank screen (well, it says 'gmail' at the top) after send/receive action. am starting to wonder if it's not a memory issue even tho i tried this unsuccessfully before i put any apps on my phone. i do have lots of unread emails, so lots to download... am planning to get memory card soon, will post re: success after memory addition.... thanks.

I was having the same problem for day or so when I first got the Q. You have to enable pop settings on your gmail account. Login on your computer and go to settings. Then click on the Forwarding/Pop tab and enable pop. Even if it is enabled now, disable it, and renable it from the current date. That did it for me and now it works great! I never miss a message. I am also able to reply to emails with ease. I don't know how I would get by without it. Hope that helps.

Two bits of info:

-- Make sure to enable POP access through your Gmail account (on a computer).

-- Let Q auto detect settings for Gmail. Works great.

Rating or review thankyou thankyou thankyou

bizzy, you have singlehandedly changed the way I use my phone. Thank you so much. I dropped my cable (and cable modem) recently and got this phone to be my basic internet connection. I'm moving in a couple months and my experience with this phone will determine how much cable I turn on after I'm in my new place. I've ben really impressed with everything but email so far. So, Bizzy, you may just have saved me lots of money. Which I will promptly spend on beer. Thanks also to Tashi for bringing the issue up again.
