You didn't give us enough details to help. For example, what kind of E-mail account is it? Also, if you're running another E-mail client (like on a PC) that's also downloading E-mail, that could explain things.

GMail uses POP3 to sync with Outlook and smartphones.

I would first try something to fix this non-e-mail related. Try using a different home theme or a different scheme and check your inbox again. Just make sure you have e-mail unread and new enough for it to sync with your settings. The text on the bar that displays the status of the account ("Logging in...", "Receiving 3 of 5"..., etc.) is controlled by a different property than the actual text of your inbox. It's possible your theme is set to white text on white.

Also, make sure you're actually in your inbox folder. Go to Menu > Folders > Inbox.

yes gmail does use pop3. And my phone automagically grabbed settings off the net for the email account, which I did check and are the same as you would use with a client on a PC. When I goto messaging from my sprint q i see:

A Text Messages
B Outlook E-Mail
C Gmail

I can send email from the phone but email is not appearing into my inbox. I know how to switch folders from inbox to sent items to outbox, etc. I looked for this white on white profile business but didnt see it. Since the email does display in my sent items folder and my outbox I do not think this is the issue.

Ah, my bad. I missed the "g" in your original post.

My understanding is that Gmail doesn't use a standard POP3 implementation, though, which may cause part of the problem. I've heard that a lot of people have issues with Gmail, and that using the Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded) setting in the Forwarding and POP Settings section helps.

I can't seem to find this Forwarding and POP Settings section. Where do I find it?

In the Settings section. When you log in, look at the upper right for the area like this:

user@gmail.com | Settings | Help | Sign out

and click the Settings link.
