Email navigation problem

I'm having a problem getting back to the primary email message list. Example: Let's say I want to go back to an email sent last week. I open that email account, scroll to the message, and then view it.

However, I've not been able to find a way to get back to the email list except for paging, on the directional pad, message by message (viewing each one) to the beginning (or end, as it may be).

Any tips?

let me get this straight.

you open your gmail, for example, account. you see a list of emails. you selected one email and open it up to read the contents. now you dont know how to get back to the list of emails?

if that is the case, then just press the back key to go back to the list view.
