Earpiece for telephone function

Hello, On my Motorola Q, when I plug in my single telephone earpiece in the ring tome does not come through the ear piece, the phone rings and i can answer the call with the head piece and talk and hear the call. is this normal for the ring to not come through the head pice, is there a setting somewhere that i do not have on, the Profile is on Headset?

do you use the headset profile when you connect an earpiece ?

i use a Bluetooth headset and when on the headset profile it rings on both the Q and the headset (ps. i have a Q1)
