Default bridging my broadband connection

Ok.....I've done a lot of research on this in these forums, and I so far I've found nothing helpful.

I have a Q with Verizon. I as part of my calling plan, I currently have broadband access on my phone. I am able to use IE and any other internet app on my phone. In my house, I have internet for my laptop, however, anytime I'm not at my house, I would like to use my phone for my broadband access (via USB or Bluetooth). I do not want to use my phone as a dial up modem as that would use my minutes. I am wanting to bridge the broadband access on my phone to my computer so that I have broadband access on my computer (that doesn't use my minutes)

Any Help on this?

Drew

Yeah, PDAnet seemed to solve my problems.

From what I was reading, I was under the impression that would still be using my minutes. But from how my phone seemed to be acting, I don't think that is the case.

nope it uses data
you will not be charged for minutes

just watch your use as excessive data usage could get you in trouble (all depends on how much you use PDAnet)

Yeah...I planned on being pretty careful with it. One of the few good things about Verizion is that I can log on and view my usage (both min and data), but I'm guessing that is probably pretty standard with all the phone companies.

I know Verizon's policy is 5GB per month. Anyone out there have any stories about Verizon shutting off service or anything. Is this 5GB just talk or do they enforce it?

Hey sabre170, I'm not sure exactly what it is you're looking for but I too am a Verizon customer with the Q and I know that you need to add another option to your plan ($15/mo) to get the Q to work as a tether to your PC. This is above and beyond just a data package that allows you to get email and surf the web on the Q. I've had this package for a couple of months and when I need it, it's great. I even used it today in an area where I only had 1X service and it still worked fine. But in EVDO it works great, as long as you're not looking to download huge files. Surfing the web and doing emails is easy. Hope this helps.

acutally this program (PDAnet) takes the place of paying for the tethering fees....
so technically you dont need the added fee...but if you want to be by the by then you should probably get the tethering package

Thanks for explaining that. I wasn't sure what the PDAnet program did and since I consider myself lucky just to get the tethering to work, and that's with VZN's help, I seriously doubt I could make the PDAnet work. Appreciate the explanation though.

It used to be that using data, used minutes on Verizon. On my original smartphone back in 2002, Vzw had an option called NAMOU (National Access Minutes Only Usage) There was no separate charge for data, you just used minutes while connected. It was great but only 1X. That was before people really knew what data usage on a phone was...
