Blank message screen when entering or reading SMS or e-mail

Hello all,

I have a Moto Q from Alltel, and last night, while entering an SMS Message, I got a call. Ever since then, I can see my text message and e-mail lists, but when I select one, the menu bar says "Text Messages" (or Hotmail, or whichever account I am in), and displays the "Send" and "Menu"" buttons (the menu button works, but "Cancel Message" is the only selection that works), and everything else is blank. Same thing when I attempt to create a new text or e-mail. Complete blankness. I first thought it might simply be a display issue, so I pressed the silver button, which would normally bring up my contacts at the first stage of text entry, and nothing happened.

Any ideas besides a Master Reset? (I hate doing those, and the phone is only a week old!)

try to kill the program in the task manager and reopen
or try and reboot

I tried killing the app, and power cycling the phone. No joy.
