Informative battery "rant"

being off work and not attaching my Q to the pc on a regular bases made me aware that the battery life is kinda (understatement ?) insufficient... i make a few calls, write a few txt messages and do limited surfing daily without charging and the Q barely makes it through a day.

thinking about getting a second battery for backup purposes.. how good that would work out i don't know, especially since i have to charge both in the Q having no cradle.

just sayin' :}

I realize the same thing on the weekends. I too use my PC to charge it at work all day.

I'll probably get the Seido extended battery rather than a 2nd though.

for the first week I was charging my phone constantly, but now for some reason I can go all day on a full charge and I use the Q non-stop.

Battery life works on the number of times that they are charged. You should really try to not use the battery while it is charging as you slowly reduce the overall charge that the battery can hold. I know in many cases this is not possible, but this is why the battery can decay more quickly than you would like it to. When you do charge your battery it is best to charge it to 100% if possible. Let's say you charge it to 50% full at work, and then go home and charge it the rest of the way to 100%. That isn't one charge, but 2 charges. I think (I could be wrong) but Li batteries are typically good for 300-400 charges before they really go down hill.

I have a spare too, but I have the cradle. It's a pain to keep them both charged without the cradle.

I do not know what the books say but I have owned a handful of phones over the past 10 years or so and I have never had an issue with batteries. I do not think I have replaced one. I have done the same thing each phone. When I get a new phone I let it die the first time and charge it up and then from there it sits on a charger EVERY night. I can not complain about the Q, not really had any issues. It will normally last all day and I have had it last 48 hours with medium use. other wise I take it off the charger at 6.45am and it will last until midnight with medium to heavy use. (dont get me wrong, I have had the Q die in the afternoon but I was on calls and emailing ALL morning) I will say it does not last as long as most of the phones I have owned but I use it a hell of a lot more and it has one of the smallest batteries.

I wish there were a % indicator for battery life. I agree with your assessment. If you are not religious about charging at home and in the car, you can get caught with a dead battery. Happened to me a few times and it's annoying. I have the extended battery, but for some odd reason continue to use the standard as my daily battery. Probably because I'm using cases that only support the standard.

With percentage indicator, at least I'd know when I was getting close to the end and adjust my activity. Nothing worse than the dreaded message letting me know it's about to go dead.

I got the extended life battery right after I got the Q, it was well worth it. However, since I downloaded the software update, I've noticed a big difference in how long the battery lasts. Anybody else had this problem or know of a fix?

TIA
