Default backup my calendar

is there a way to back up my motorola q calendar to my cpu without OUTLOOK

i signed up for google calendar. but my phone is not hooked up to the internet. will i have to buy outlook to sync my phone and cpu

can you just copy the PIM.VOL file to the PC with active sync and leave a copy there
it holds contacts and calendar info
you can access it but its there for restoring purposes only
