to remap the keys.

Using a reg editor, the key you want to edit is:
\HKLM\Software\Motorola\Keypad

The original settings were:
0x14 - SPKPHN
0x34 = SIDEBACK

I switched those 2 around so 14 was now SIDEBACK and 34 is now SPKPHN., remember you need to restart your phone after making these changes to take effect.

This actually works really since now the speakerphone button is now a back button, so its real useful for backspacing when typing.

Also the side bar is now easier to use for voice commands and speakerphone.

PS: for Telus Q users with locked registry, you need to use the following cab to unlock your registry first:

Default Beware

Executing this particular hack will destroy your phone if you've just had the software upgrade!

Could you elaborate on what happens?

The phone really started behaving strangely and it's hard to explain. It was as if a key were "stuck" or something. For example, one of the behaviors was, if I pressed the "Start" button, all the icons would display but if I tried to navigate to one of them ... in any direction ... I was booted right back to my home page. From my home page, I could navigate to any icon on the top (explorer, wmp, pics, etc...) , select it, but the app would blink and then send me right back to my homepage.

So, while I couldn't "use" my phone, there were three buttons which made the speakerphone indicator go on. The speakerphone button, the up arrow above it to the right, and the voice command key.

If I boot the phone and go straight into "START", I can get into RESCO and reverse the changes. Then, everything works great.

I've tried assigning "NOMAP" to key 14 and leaving key 34 assigned to "SIDEBACK" but that also caused all these weird problems.

I set key 14 to nothing (just left it blank) and that is what destroyed my phone ... it no longer boots.

NOTE: If anyone experiences this, make sure "START" is the first key you press after booting your phone. This will allow you to navigate to RESCO and reverse the changes. Exit RESCO and reboot your phone.

DO NOT LEAVE KEY 14 blank ... the phone cannot recover from this and will not boot ! ! ! ! !

If you have a backup of all your data, try performing a Master Reset by holding the silver button and the power button when powering the phone on..

I've confirmed beyond a shadow of doubt that this really messes up a phone that has the new software update.

I did not know about resetting the phone by holding down the silver key while booting so, I went to Verizon and they said the phone had to be replaced. So, if anyone wants a new Q, simply set key 14 to nothing and go to Verizon.

Back to the point, with ny new Q, the first thing I did was install Resco and change key 14 to "NOMAP" and ... voila ... messed up phone. I changed it back to SPKPHN and all was normal. Yes, I rebooted the phone both times.

I really hate the speakerphonekey. I'm constantly hitting it by mistake in or out of calls and it's very unprofessional answering the phone and then realizing it was mistakenly set to speakerphone. I don't EVER want to use speakerphone but this stupid key is so easy to hit.

You can assign numeric shortcuts to start menu items by highlighting and then pushing menu add speed dial.

You can assign one global shortcut that works from anywhere by renaming the Messaging.lnk to Email.lnk and then creating a Messaging.lnk that points to your favorite app; Celetask in my case because it is a task switcher. then pushing the little email button always brings up your app. Warning: don't erase and not leave a Messaging.lnk or your phone will crash.
