Adding mp3's to the Q? - Motorola Q Forum

My miniSD card appears in the file manager of the Q as "storage card". when i connect the Q to my computer the card doesn't appear under "mobile device" in windows explorer.

I'm just trying to transfer mp3's from my computer to the Q. how do i do this?

Clicking on Mobile Device shows a modified view of your \My Documents folder. The modification is the My Windows Mobile-Based Device icon. Expand that and you'll see all of the folders at the root of your device, including \Storage Card.

how do i "expand" that? I go to my computer and then mobile device and there is nothing in there

if the card is appearing on the Q as Storage Card under File Manager, does that mean that the card is working and the problem is definitely the card?

I use Windows Explorer's tree view to expand things.

But what do you mean there's nothing in the Mobile Device folder? If your Q is connected, you should see something.

yeah, i think i haven't been able to get it connected with my pc. i keep getting errors with activesync. it's not able to connect.

Ok, I think the problem is that I can't get activesync to work. should the connection be listed on my pc as a local area connection? if so, when i go to local area connection properties and connect using, I believe I am supposed to see "Windows Mobile-based Device". But I don't....

I have changed settings on mcafee firewall to allow certain ports.

this is frustrating.

if i can't get this figured out, will the following work:

get a card reader with a usb. plug the usb into my computer. transfer files to my miniSD card. then put the miniSD card in my Q. will I then be able to access these mp3's on my q and play in WMP?

Yes, this will work.

Disable your firewall and install activesync from administrator mode on your pc then reboot. The active sync icon should show in your system tray and turn green when connected to the phone.

Alternatively you can install this file by browsing to it from your Q

http://67.122.16.97/lars/misc/smartphone/wm5torage.cab

That will make your storage card into a flash drive temporarily when you run it which most pcs recognize and no need for activesync.
