Default A Few Questions from a Noob

hi, first of all, i have to say I bought my Q yesterday and I LOVE IT! No regrets whatsoever yet. It's great.

Anyways, i'm running my Q on a Mac. I have MarkSpace and all that.

a.) how can I get AIM on it for free?

b.) why isn't my gmail working for it?

c.) why do square images stretch when I set them as a background? can i change that?

d.) is there any freeware anybody reccomends?

e.) how can i easily lock the phone? how about turn down the volume?

f.) finally, ringtones. how do i get new ringtones?

thanks!

well.. let's see.

a.) agile messenger seems to work fairly well.
b.) it works. follow the tutorial here: http://www.everythingq.com/kb/how-to...-a-motorola-q/
c.) you could try editing them to be 320x240 before putting them on the Q
d.) here are some apps others are using: http://www.everythingq.com/forum/sof...our-q-452.html
e.) to lock the phone, hold down the Home button. To change the volume, hold in the scroll-wheel until the volume indicator pops up, then rotate the wheel.
f.) you should be able to use any wav as a ringtone.

edit: Forgot to mention.. there is also a Mac forum, so you might want to check the posts in there to see if/what/how things work when interfacing with a Mac: http://www.everythingq.com/forum/mac-motorola-q/

just FYI, i was experimenting with this as well, since all my ringtones were in .mp3 format and i didn't want to have to convert them.

by pairing my Q to my Windows XP laptop, i could right click on the Q in my "Bluetooth Devices" and choose "Send File".

i sent an mp3 over. it automatically put it in the "My Documents" folder on my Q.

then when i browsed "Sounds" on my Q to change the "New e-mail" sound, the mp3 i added was there and it works fine.

So you CAN use MP3s and apparently they will be detected if they're in your My Documents folder.

Just my $0.02.
