Stero headset question

I have lots of earbuds that I like already so I don't want to go out and buy a new one like the Seido units on this site. My question is, can I use my existing headsets with the 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter and, when I use the phone, listen through the headset and speak into the phone's builtin mic?

you can use that adapter if it has 3 rings so it's stereo.. i am not sure about the mic thing.

check the moto web site, it should list supported items...or one would think
