Default Power Adapter Question

I have an old AC power adapter for a Moto RZR that is only 550mA output. I assume if this charger works it will just charge the phone slower. Is there a possibility of damaging it?

i'll assume if the mA is lower, it'll either charge slower OR not charge at all (not enough juice). If it's HIGHER, then I wouldn't use it.

can the electrical gurus here clarify?

I know if it is higher that it is safe to use because the device will only draw as much current as it needs. My concern was that if it was too low and the device tried to draw too much that it may damage the circuit because of too little current.

It's fine to use. In fact, if you go to a VZW store and buy an extra A/C charger, they will sell you a 550mA charger.

Scott,

You must have spoke to the wrong person at the Verizon store. I wanted an spare charger and went to my local Verizon store. They sold me the same style 850ma charger that came with the phone originally.

I've also seen these at Wal-Mart (Moto brand), as well as the car charger.

It's certainly possible. Anyway, the 550mA charger they gave me works fine. It probably takes a little longer than the 850mA to fully charge the phone, but they're both pretty fast.
