Sorry for being late on this.
I purchased the wi-fi card from Telus for about 70$ and it works great for me because I do not have web browsing plan at all.
I can use to access the internet, e-mail and IM when I am not in a coverage area.
Usually I also turn off my Service Provider while using it, just in case I get dinged with any data usage.
I hope this helps, but the biggest peeve is that since, the internal memory on the Q9c isn't that great, it sometimes feels like the web browsing bogs it down.
Just be careful. Apparently Spectec makes a special SDW-822 wifi sD card for the Verizon Q9m/Q9c (WM6). According to one of the resellers (BuyGPS), the general SDW-822 PDA wifi card that they sell won't work for the Q9 smart phones. Unfortunately, this information is not excessively clear on Amazon (although it is more clear on the buyGPS site). So just have a care.
