"I JUST POSTED THIS ON CRACKBERRY ALSO!

I can use any third party gps and get gps coordinates consitently......here's the catch.
Ok I've had my 8330 a little over two months now, I spent about a week trying to get amaze, mobile gmaps, telenav, nav4all..etc. working to no avail. Sooo I broke down and subscribed to VZNav for 9.99 a month.Shortly after I read that you could subscribe to telus nav and the cancel to unlock gps on other CDMA phones, so I thought maybe now that I have VZNav I could do the samething. Tried it and got nothing. I had been using Windows Live maps just to look at local maps etc with no gps. so I was traveling for work and had an active navigation session running in VZNav and wanted to look at a sat view of my location so I went into Local info in VZNav and jotted down the coordinates thinking I would put them into google maps or win live map............heres the KICKKER! I HIT END THAT IS KEY, AND THEN OPENED LIVE SEARCH AND WASN'T SURE WERE TO PUT IN COORDINATES SO I SELECTED NEAR--THEN NEW LOCATION--THEN GPS LOCATION. SAVED IT SAID WILL NOW CONFIGURE GPS FOR YOUR DEVICE ETC. SELECTED MAP AND BAM THERES MY GPS LOCATION.....
CLOSED LIVE MAPS TRIED MOBILE GMAPS....SAT TRACKING!!! GPSED TRACKING OK...NO ******** WAY~ SO THEN I REMEMBER VZNAV IS RUNNING...SO I CLOSE IT AND IMMEDIATLEY LOSE MY GPS FIX FOR ANYTHING ELSE....OPENED VZNAV AGAIN AND COULDNT GET A FIX IN ANY OTHER SOFTWARE UNTILL I OPENED A FOLLOW ME MAP OR SOMETHING THAT CONSTANTLY POLLS THE GPS..sorry for the all caps.

What's this mean? It's not the most convinent as you have to open vznav then open other programs, uses alot of mem and alot of battery, but it does show that it is a software issue, and here is the 2nd kicker.

I start thinking, and I'm getting pissed cause clearly gps is funcitional and will work on the phone, but I have to pay for it and have vznav....bs....i would really even pay for them to just give me a low memory program to constantly poll without all the UI to be able to access gps, so I call vzw tech and he tells me this!! " If you can get a gps fix in 3rd party software at any time (ie. with vznavigator running) but cannot get a fix when it isnt running then I need to call the vendor of that software because it is a coding issue on there part." So basically they know it's a coding issue, because they caused it, and that the vendor of the software just can't figure out how to activate the gps on the phone!!! I couldn't beleive he said it.....so I am not knowledged enough to figure out how to get the gps working, but it will work...I use it all the time now....every gps software I download works!!!!!!! only if I have an active session running in vznav! try it guys. let me know if I'm just a fluke!!

Oh yeah, it worked when I was running 4.3, and now I'm running 4.5.0.51 and its still working !! Lets see if we can beat this crap!"
Well I just tried this on my 9C and my i770. On the 9c I used WLS and on the i770 I used Google Maps. In both cases I launched VZNav and fired up a "follow me map" so the GPS would stay active. Also in both cases I was using the Windows Intermediate Driver.

Neither one worked. Both just sat there for 10 minutes looking for sats with no success.

There has to be something in the BT drivers that breaks. Never had this problem with the Q1. Worked great the other day and the headset still works.
I was playing around with using my Q as a high-speed modem for my laptop and discovered that the "Settings->Connections->USB to PC" has the option to disable advanced network functionality, but doing this disabled the GPS connection. If that's the case on your Q, checking the box might fix the GPS access.

Googled "VZ" "Navigator" & "CAB" and found the following link http://www.mediafire.com/?vtnmyvlbmq0. It's described as being for the Q9h but I ran it on my Q9c and it installed - but when I tried to access GPS, it told me that I wasn't "provisioned" & would have to call Verizon. Now my Q shuts down if I try to open VZNav (but ActiveSynch "remove program" removed it).

There is a xml file embedded in the cab that might provide a hint - but I'm not a programmer. I've also attached a listing of what got installed to the Q using the cab.

Default q9c gps activation

Just went through the 38 pages on this post. My friend has a Verizon XV6800 with version 6.1

There is a user "skywing" on forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387 that has cracked the encryption on the verizon gps and written a cab for the 6800 that seems to work. I tried it on the moto q9c and it did not. Maybe someone could look at it and see what has to be changed to make it work on the q9c.

After looking at the files that I referred to in my last post, I concluded that those files successfully installed the needed GPS-enabling drivers. The problem is that Verizon has set up their software to require "handshaking" using public/private keys to receive the satellite info.

I'm not real savvy on this stuff, but it seems that the needed drivers may be in that download and it's a question of how they can be used to enable the GPS without needing Verizon's program.

Default Verizon encrypts the output of the GPS

As I said in the earlier post, it looks like google maps and live search can't use the output of the GPS as it is presented. Verizon has encrypted it. Skywing has decrypted the output and wrote a dll that will present it in a usable mode. This was written for the 6800, we need to find someone to get it into MOTO Q9c format. I quess I should add that the Verizon xv6800 is a Windows Mobile 6 Professional Operating system.

With that said, I think that the reason that this is so tough, is that from what I've read, Qualcomm's GPSOne chip actually gets programmed at the factory for their specific applications... Meaning that the chip is actually programmed differently between the Verizon Phones and Sprint Phones. On top of that, as its been discussed extensively, there are difference in drivers (verizon = no gps intermediate driver), and registry differences.

I think the best approach is to look more into the GPSOne chip, and see if we can find any way to reflash it, or change the config tables, or what not on that. I believe this is the reason why there is such a lack of GPSOne user API's.
I think that we have the drivers for the Q9c, but we are missing the program needed to run the drivers (in VXNavigator, I think that would be VZ Navigator.exe and in the XDA install for the 6800 referred to by diz above, that would be gpssrv.exe).

Is this something that you can help with? The file size is too big or I would send you the cab & installed files that are listed in the jpg that I posted...

This is from skywing on xv6800 forum

I've written up a program that will enable the use of assisted GPS on the MR1 Verizon ROM. This may be of use to you if you do not want to use a custom ROM, -or- you cannot get GPS working on a custom ROM.

Note: This method does not currently work on dcd's releases. My code has only been verified to work on the Verizion MR1 ROM. I believe this is because the Sprint GPS intermediate driver does not support the DRM/locked down GPS functionality required to talk to gpsOne once the firmware has been programmed for locked down GPS mode.

You can always flash back to MR1 from a custom ROM. If you already have GPS working on your custom ROM, this is probably not necessary, and you should keep your existing ROM.

The GPS adapter system consists of several parts under the hood:

- gpssrv.exe, a program that I wrote which understands how to decrypt GPS data from the chipset when it is operating in locked down GPS mode. This program acts as an intermediary server, through which all GPS clients can indirectly access location information.
- gpsapi.dll, a replacement for the OS-level gpsapi.dll. The replacement DLL communicates with gpssrv.exe to retrieve positioning information. This model allows multiple programs to receive GPS data at the same time, as the locked down GPS interface only supports one concurrent user.
- oemgpsOne.dll, a modified version of the Verizon oemgpsOne.dll module for communicating with the gpsOne chipset driver.
- stdgps.dll, a copy of the standard OS gpsapi.dll. Due to limitations in Windows CE, this needs to have a different name than the replacement gpsap.dll. It is otherwise identical to the shipping version of gpsapi.dll.
