If it's a bad idea or is going to brick my phone, someone should talk me out of it fast. The sprint update will be done downloading in like 5 minutes. |
I actually think this MIGHT be the easiest ways to do jailbreak the GPS from Verizon's greedy little fingers ...
BUT, a couple of things to watch out for:
1 - make sure you have a VZW rom to flash back to ... (this goes without saying of course). I think if you have the VZW rom and RDSLite working properly, you can experiment all you want with the Sprint ROM ...
2 - once you have the Sprint ROM loaded, you may have problems with the phone knowing which service your phone should connect to ... you might need to go into the programming section of the phone to set some of the preferences - bands and towers to connect to. Although, when I upgraded my q9m to 6.1 (using the Verizon Q9c rom), I DIDN'T have to reprogram the phone settings (*228). This could mean that you won't have to change the phone radio settings (good), but it could also mean that the GPS settings won't change behavior even with a Sprint ROM (bad).
3 - in the programming section of the phone (do you know the ## code to get here?) - you will hopefully have access to the GPS settings screen. on my Q9m w/ 6.1, the GPS settings screen is disabled - you can't access this ... I think this will be the key to getting the GPS working ... so if this is unlocked with the Spring ROM, you might be MUCH closer ...
4 - assuming you can get into the GPS settings screen from the programming screen, I would guess you will need Verizon's aGPS server information - to replace Sprint's ....
Good luck - and let us know how it goes!
