Default Windows mobile 6.1

It seems like this thread has stalled a little. Is everyone waiting for Verizon's WinMo 6.1 to see if that fixes the GPS issue? If so has anyone hacked Sprint's 6.1 onto the Verizon Q9c? Does anyone know when Verizon is planning to release their 6.1 update?

I've been following this thread for a little while now.
I'm a software engineer, with an extensive background in hardware design, and embedded software design.

With that said, I think that the reason that this is so tough, is that from what I've read, Qualcomm's GPSOne chip actually gets programmed at the factory for their specific applications... Meaning that the chip is actually programmed differently between the Verizon Phones and Sprint Phones. On top of that, as its been discussed extensively, there are difference in drivers (verizon = no gps intermediate driver), and registry differences.

I think the best approach is to look more into the GPSOne chip, and see if we can find any way to reflash it, or change the config tables, or what not on that. I believe this is the reason why there is such a lack of GPSOne user API's.

Default Interesting

Hey everybody,

I found this article today, obviously it's for a different phone, but maybe someone with more technical knowledge could see how this hack works, and modify it for the q9c? At least we see some verizon phone can be hacked to enable GPS.

http://www.phonenews.com/how-to-add-...00-titan-2663/

It does appear that they had to reprogram some hardware. Anyways, hope that helps somebody.

Thanks to everyone working on this, I really appreciate it, since I can't do it myself. Thanks guys!

I agree, the new verizon Napoleian Q will have the 6.1 OS and that will be the motovation to get people to buy it and not the 9c. They have not seemed to be pushing the 9c hard at all. The price was low right from the start which is never a good sign for a product like this. I do wish we could find a way around the GPS problem and wonder if the qualcom coment on the chip itself being programed diffrent from the start isnt the answer to out problem. If it is I doubt we can flash it, why would they build that utility in to the phone when it would be counter productive to thier desires. The one thred I was captivated by was the one that sugested that it does end up talking to the verizon towers/servers as part of the lock up process. If we validate that idea (and it seems likely to me) we will put this thread to bed. Abet it wont be the answer I wanted, the 9c is a dern nice phone. Makes me think sprint ya know.....

Default No one responded to this

This sounds like the most informative post so far but no one has commented on doing this. What happened to thebixcuit, who seemed the most sophisticated researcher in this?

So how many signatures must be present on this petition before it is sent on to Verizon and everyone else listed?

I got my Q9c Thursday and have been tweaking it ever since. Getting GPS to work would be awesome. I added all the registry values mentioned over at the Sprint forum, particularly "IsEnabled", and of course, nothing changed.

There has to be a way to get this working. Some time next week I'm going to do some more digging. Maybe thebixcuit got his GPS working and took a road trip to test it out. If so, I hope he comes back and shares.

Default Qualcomm GPSOne

I know that people are replacing the GPS ROMs on the HTC Titans and other HTC models to "open up" the GPS to any application. From what I understand, the HTCs use the Qualcomm GPSOne chips and so do the Q. How are they getting it to work on the HTC and what's the technical reason it can't be used on a Moto if they are both Qualcomm GPSOne chipsets?

from what I remember the Q9m uses aGPS...theres a thread on it somewhere but for some reason when I try searching for that thread it says nothing exists...hmmm.

I could be wrong, but I think the Q uses real GPS. The original models might have only used aGPS though. Either way, I think there's definately a full fledged GPS chip in it. I'm sure it's a similar problem to the HTC phones, the HTC phones have available source though and people have the info they need to develop for it.
