I think that's who I'd switch to, when my contract is up, if I switched. I don't think I'd go to Sprint because I've already had a CDMA company, and I wouldn't mind trying some GSM, unlocked type of action... maybe, in the future, and again- big maybe.

I have the installer(.cab) for the VZNaz. Not sure that will help all that much. It's too large to post on the forum though. Let me know if you want me to email it?

Sorry for being so native on this thread for so long. I have had the chance to look at the Sprint files and registry settings and have implemented them on to my phone but still no luck. I'm not sure if they are getting used properly yet or if I am missing anything.

Sprint has a generic GPS driver (gpsgenericdrvr.dll). I also noticed a difference between the qdrivers.dll (this loads up most of the dlls that are not directly loadable). I tried replacing rilcdma.dll but this causes the phone to freeze at boot. That would be the driver that sends all of the AT commands to the radio.

Not quite sure what my next step is when I get more time. I think I may try to get in to the radio bootloader to see if LBS can be enabled if it is disabled. It really bothers me that the GPS settings cannot be modified through the service menus. In rilcdma.dll there are a few lines regarding an error code where LBS can apparently be disabled. From my understanding LBS is what GPSID uses to communicate to the gpsOne and for it to be disabled would be in line with what was posted in the FAQ of the motodev site.

If this is the case then what is needed is to either enable this service through in the radio, or development of some sort to emulate what Verizon is doing with their gps drivers on the radio side and provide GPSID exports so that other windows apps can use it.

Like I said. I haven't had much time to get a clear idea of what is going on, but wanted to let everyone know that I am still working on this. VZNav is OK, but there have been a few times where I've had to go to google maps to find the address of what I am loooking for then go back to VZNav and type it in because their search absolutely blows. GPS is on the money though. I also hate having to pay for it obviously.

If anyone wants to poke at the Sprint files someone has posted the dump on my ftp. If anyone wants to take a look at them I uploaded the file to rapidshare.

http://rapidshare.com/files/12887004..._dump.rar.html

You'll have to figure out how to dump the files to OS and SYS directories

Thanks for taking the time. I have a really nice Garmin 60Cx I using for navigation, hiking, and geocaching. I personally have no use for VZNav.
I use Cachemate, GPSInfo, and Mapopolis all of which run on the Q9c and can use a GPS. Right now I'm using a bluetooth GPS and it works fine. Having those apps use the internal GPS would be very nice though.

Let me know if I can help in anyway.

Default Boot Loader

It makes sense that VZW disabled the GPS settings menu for a reason. I think the key is to somehow re-enable this menu or alter the settings.

I found this on the Black berry forum for the Verizon 8330 curve...
Has anyone tried this???

Ok it seems everyone keeps overlooking threads on here about how to get your GPS to work. I know this kinda sucks as you have to have VZnav first but VZNAV is a great program so swallowing the 9.99 they charge for it is not to bad. anyway once you have VZNAV start it up, then go to maps and select it, scroll down to follow me and select it, wait for it to find your location. Close the screen now "dont close the program out just back out and leave it running. Now select the program in which you could not use before IE: Trimble or whatever GPS program you wanted and watch as the GPS comes alive! so it sucks that you have two battery munching programs running but at least it works. GOODLUCK!
