SMS Ringer

Not sure if there's a hack out there or if its just one of those quirks that all phones have that I'm just gunna have to deal with. When I get a text message and my ringer is on the ringer can't be interrupted. When I recieve a call if I hit the side wheel it will interrupt the ringer but if I get a text I can't. Any help/Ideas?

edit: disregard this, after some searching (which i should have done 1st) i found that it is impossible to change it.
