You probably need to application unlock your phone with a program. I did not have to do that because my phone was not locked down.

Check this thread:

http://www.everythingq.com/forum/sof...er-8053-7.html

You have to edit an option in the opera.ini that deals with how it writes to the storage memory. I actually have not had this problem yet with the release version of 8.65. Make sure you have the latest. Also, check the change log for the latest Opera. Particularly the section about where they moved the configuration files.

Hey all, bought my Q about three weeks ago and have done most of the basic hacks, but boosting the processor speed is something I'm still kinda undecided on.

Basicly my question is if from any of your testing have you find a setting that doesn't put the MHZ at max, but to a level above normal and not TOO consuming of battery life without any bugs? I'd like to set my Q to this; detailed instrcutions would be appreciated as I didn't exactly follow with how to do all that "threshold" stuff, etc. Thanks!

Does the threshold hack seem to be hell on everyone else's battery life? I'm going to have to change back since I'm only getting a few hours out of the battery now (mixture of web browsing/video streaming and voice).

I guess I'd have to do some more empirical tests to be sure, but my perception is that this hurts battery life considerably.

In fact, maybe changing those values can achieve the same effect. I'm guessing the values control when the CPU speeds up or slows down based on CPU usage percentage.

So maybe the following settings would work, too:
  • Threshold104to208 -- Change from 60 to 2.
  • Threshold208to312 -- Change from 85 to 4.
  • Threshold208to104 -- Change from 40 to 1.
  • Threshold312to208 -- Change from 50 to 3.
I haven't tried it, though (and probably won't ).

However, remember that any hacks here can hurt battery life (and, like any registry hack, mess up your device). Also, I might be worried about overheating if the CPU isn't designed to run full speed all the time (but I hope Motorola stress tested that).

Steve

Steve,

Can you explain precisely what the thresholds mean? Would there be other values that might be a compromise between the factory settings and what you have recommended?

If you look at this thread, you can find most of the information you want. Steve said he was not sure earlier in this thread. I gave a guess as to what I think they do earlier also. You might try using my original registry edit instead of directly editing the thresholds. Once again, earlier I explained I was using the thresholds then moved onto this more "preferred method". There is a way to make the CPU more-or-less stay at 200 mhz or even 100 mhz by directing editing the thresholds. Find my earlier post and maybe you can make sense of it. Basically I think the numbers correspond to cpu load percentage and what to do when the CPU is above (or below) that level for an unspecified amount of time.

That's what I thought, but TCPMP reports mine as 314mhz after the "0" hack. Think it's probably just reading the cpu wrong.
