mine wouldn't even stick to use it. i changed it, opened the browser and it was the same. went back and checked and it had changed settings back to the default already.

Well it stuck for me, even thru a regular reboot. But it did nothing for me performance-wise, instead it F***ed my Q up for awhile.....

Okay... I have spent the past hour reading all 21 pages.

I HAVE A BLACK AND RED VERIZON Q 9M.....

Step by step how is this done
I have read 20 different ways to accomplish good and bad results.....

- Links for programs necessary to even be able to make these modifications
- How to open the different programs and locating hkey files
- What to change in the hkey or w/e files
- When to change them (be specific after reboot/browsing IE/?)
- Please don't say dafs, or read my last post...

Has every black motorola q 9M on the verizon network fd up after making this change? If so, please post and let me know before I have any regrets... regards

Do yourself a favor and really think these internet speed hacks thru before you try them. Read my experiences with them. And no, I'm not some newb in regards to computer technology and registry settings, these things did happen to me despite following the hacks to the Tee. It has made me wonder how many that posted in this thread can actually claim things like 10X faster, or huge improvement.

You really want to put in the effort to get internet sped on your Q?? Read the thread about Opera Mini and get that on your Q. The zoom function is a little different than IE, but the speeds are 'REALLY' 10X faster.

Yes, you read it right...2 THOUSAND kbps!

There's a thread here about getting Opera Mini on your Q, and it involves installing Java on your Q and running the emulator.exe, but you will not be sorry if you get it on yopur Q...

BTW, Opera Mini is free. Get the version 4 Beta 2

If you still want to try these hacks, by all means do so, and I wish you luck and better results than I had.

When using the hacks you have to remember that you are editing your registry which can cause total system failure if you change the wrong thing. Just be prepared to do a master reset because things can go terribly wrong. As for the speed hack, i have done it and I see a small difference in speed but you have to remember you are still running everything through a proxy server even with a different DNS server. So if the servers are so over worked then that proxy will be as well.

Part of the problem with these hacks as well is that many times it is relayed by what someone has seen others do, and not by tested methods on their own. So most times there is no track record of potential bugs or issues until someone runs into them after proceeding with these unstable hacks.

For me, this hack really made my Q unstable, despite making the correct settings and changes.

My Q is now back to being very stable, with speeds near where it was before alll these hacks. And now between Opera Mini and IE, I'm good to go.

There was only one hack, that I tried seperately, where it was stable and it did atleast boost performance slightly enough for me to notce and conclude that it was indeed the speed hack and not my imagination....And that was the threshold hack to have your Q's CPU's clock speeds to increase at lower percentages of use. That is the only one I am confident in. Others, as well as those to come, will be dealt with extreme caution and scrutiny.
