Windows Vista and Windows Mobile Device Center

Has anyone had experience with Windows Vista and its Mobile Device Center? I installed it and synched with my Q9m, but I also wanted to transfer Garmin maps to my Dell X51. I cradeled it and couldn't get it to connect. I tried deleting my partnership, figuring I could set it up again later, but no dice. I tried reinstalling the Mobile Device Center (latest version from Microsoft's web site) but it won't recognize either of my mobile devices now. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get this working again short of reinstalling Vista on my pc?
