Months ago, I updated my girlfriends original Moto Q to MOL3 via moto's update website. Btw, there is a download update MSU_Q9m_Standalone_Update.ext available. Anyone know if this updates the standard OS that shipped on the q9m?

Winmo 6.1 is available via Microsoft's site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspx.
Does anyone know if we can update to 6.1 ourselves? Knowing VZW, it's probably locked down somehow, but maybe it will work?

Motorola does have 6.1 available for download, depending on your cell service provider. If you go to through support > phone update and enter your provider and phone type, the download is available (over 50MB) and there is a link to instructions. I have downloaded it but have not installed it yet.

Here's the link for Moto Q 9m on Verizon:

and that's just the generic link to be able to downlad the motorola software update program (which is what does the 6.1 update, as well as any other MOL updates) currently the only way it will downlod the 6.1 update is if you have a sprint Q9c

Ok. It seems 50MB is a pretty large program if it just checks for updates. This program is something that I've downloaded to my computer. The instructions seem to imply it's self-contained.

I will find out in a few days.

The file available via the Moto website is:
MSU_Q9m_Standalone_Update.exe

Can anyone confirm if it's in fact the 6.1 update? Seems like the file name would make some mention of it, if so.

I guess I had to see for myself, but the replies were right - the big file is just checking for updates. It's not the WM6.1 upgrade. What a disappointment.
