Default Using Wifi Networks

Hey everyone,

I've got the spec. Wifi B card like everyone else, bought it on Ebay for $30.00. The drivers are installed, and the car works like a charm, picking up networks. Now my question: When I am connected to a network and launch Internet Explorer, am I defaulting to using Wifi or am I using the same old Verizon Network. I assumed when I am connected to a Wifi network it automatically uses that one instead of verizon, is this correct? I want to make sure I am doing it right before I get a big kilobyte bill on my next month.

Thanks everyone

There are 5 connection types: work, internet, etc. When you setup the wifi connection you have to associate it with one of those then in IE you can tell it to auto detect or manaully specifiy one of the 5. Then under the advanced menu you can also specify what is what. Auto also seems to start at the top of the list so you can accidently connect to evdo if you don't have everything set up right.

Thanks. My wireless at my house is titled "default". I selected "edit" in the wifi menu and set "default" to an Internet Connection type.

Then I opened IE and selected options, and selected the Connection Type to be Internet as well.

Now does this mean when I'm connected to my "default" connection at my house it will automatically default to using Wifi? Im guessing if I wanted to set up another connection, say at school, I would have to redo these options the first time I connect to it, correct?

My most prominent question is if I set up my "default" connection correctly to use the Wifi network.

*EDIT* By the way, the "auto detect settings" option in IE is UNCHECKED.

There is none in the phone called default, its internet, work, wap, secure wap. You want to make sure the wifi is assocated with internet since its at the top of the list

The connection called "Internet" in the phone is like a profile. In the advanced menu you select what you want the profile "Internet" to connect with. So when you see Internet in IE it will use whatever connection you set that profile for. It won't say your network name in the IE options.

Alright so my "network type" for the connection at my house is set to "internet".

Then when I launch IE > tools > options > connections: "auto detect settings" is UNCHECKED, and "Network" is set to "The Internet"

So everything is up up for this particular network correctly right? Thanks for your help

Does the wifi card fit seamlessly into the SD card slot, or does it stick out?

This question has been answered at least a dozen times already and there are threads with pictured of it sticking out.

Yes, everything is setup for your wifi correctly. I have mine setup so that it requires a password before it even tries to jump on verizon's network. That way I don't have to worry about it straying off wifi.
