Default Strange Text Input Problem

I've had my Verizon q9m for a few 4 months or so. All of a sudden today, my text input stopped working. No matter what settings I use in the "text input" settings, when I write an email or a text message, it will NOT suggest words - no matter what I type.

I have taken the battery out to restart it a few times, but this has not helped at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

On a related note, I find the phone to be pretty slow when using everyday features like text messaging, email. I can type much faster than it will accept and I get the spinning wheel alot - is this normal?

Thanks - appreciate the help.

The slownes is not normal, and here are a few suggestions:

Make sure you have killed open applications in the task manager, this is main cause of slowness IMHO.

If you recently changed your homescreen, ty pickng a different one. sometimes mistakes in the XML can slow down the device.

If the meory on your phone is almost full, try moving some apps or files over to a storrage card.

If none of those fix the problem, let me know and we will troubleshoot some more.

Actually, I had a very similar problem. I would be typing and all of a sudden the characters would stop appearing. My phone was slow as well and I was constantly restarting it. Someone else on the forum suggested that I clear the buffer for the "predictive text". Well, I don't use that anyway so I cleared it and turned it off. My phone has been screaming fast since last week when I did that.

Start -> Settings -> (3rd screen) Text Input Settings - > Menu -> Clear Input History.

There are also other settings there to turn it on or off, how many characters before a suggestion, etc. If you use the function, try just clearing the history. Like I said, since I did that, my phone has been like brand new.

thanks for the suggestions. I've tried all of them. Clearing the input history did somewhat help the speed issue. But I still cannot get any text suggestions when I type a text or email. I have 21 Megs free on the device and about 15m free in Ram - so I don't think it's a memory issue. Don't know what else it could be.

No. No matter what, no matter how long I wait, no matter what letters I type - no suggestions ever come up. It will not autocomplete any words I type, nothing at all happens ever.

Again, all was working fine, but all of a sudden yesterday, the suggested words just completely stopped.

Lol. yeah, I tried turning it on, off, back on. Just to see if anything made a difference. But nothing does so far. The only thing I haven't done is the "master reset" because I don't want to lose my info. (I use Mac OS and haven't backed things up, because I don't care to pay for the software to do so)

Have you instaled any new programs recently? Probably would have neded to be within a day or two before the problem stared. Also did you do any editing in the registry for a new hack or something?

Te only other idea that i can think of wouldbe that somehow the database that the Q uses for predictive might have gotten deleted or corrupted somehow, and I am not sure if there is a way to restore that
