I bought the Holux M1000/M-1000 GPS Bluetooth receiver (through a seller on Amazon.com, best price).
After getting it, powering it with a spare Motorola mini USB charger, then followed these steps:
- Powered on Holux M1000
- Enabled Bluetooth on my Motorola Q9m (Verizon)
- I went to Bluetooth Manager -> Settings - > Menu -> Serial Ports
- Make sure the box is checked next to "Select new device for the next outgoing serial connection". Then select Done. It was already checked and I saw no apparent way to change it.
- On the settings screen, Menu -> Paired Devices - > Menu -> Add
- When it found HOLUX-M-1000, I selected it, entered the password (0000 from the manual).
- Once connected, I opened Google Maps (downloaded latest version last week, v 2.1.0.10)
- Menu -> Options -> GPS Settings
- My Location Settings, Set Manually, COM1:, 38400, OK
- Menu -> Use GPS
- Follow the prompts (sorry, I did this too fast to recall each option) selecting the Holux device, yes to allow pairing, yes to always use this device
- You are returned to Google Maps and your location will be shown flashing as a blue dot.
I can say that this was so much cheaper to add this item than buying a standalone GPS unit. And nothing else to carry with me other than a tiny receiver. The accuracy with Google Maps was great. I am sitting in my living room and it knows where I am, dot right on my house.
After first fixing my phone's freezing issue last week (the stupid text prediction issue), and now getting the GPS working, I am once again in love with my phone.
I hope this info ends up helping someone else!
