Rating or review SD card Vs. Activesync (newb)

Newb here. I have been playing around with the Q9M and reading these forums constantly for the past few days. I am pretty sure I want to add a registry reader to do some of the hacks/customizations. I also want to avoid adding as much software to my laptop as possible (ieActivesync). With an SD card that I can transfer from Q to laptop (so far so good with music and pictures) can I do registry edits and use docs created on my Q with PC?

In a nut shell, what do I need activesync for that I cant do with an SD card? Again, newb, who wants as much info as possible before I start adding tons of software to laptop or Q. TIA

active sync syncs data between outlook and the Q
if you dont use that then i guess you dont need it...but that just means you cant transfer files from the Q to the PC without removing your SD card

active sync is a tiny program...really shouldnt matter to put it on the PC

and if you have a registry editor on the Q you do the edits there and not on a PC

No, I don't use Outlook, nor do I use data. I may install it in the future, I just try to keep the laptop as clean as possible.

I strongly suggest installing ActiveSync, it's very small and hardly noticeable... However, without it, you may not be able to install all applications as many of them do not come in "cab" format, you have to install them via a PC using activesync....

Just my .02

the ability to sync data and information is a huge feature set of the Q or any smartphone. the ablity to get and stay organized is one of the draws of any smartphone. contacts/appointments and mail. and like previously pointed out activesync also is needed to install many programs.

Its Activesync, not active sync (all one word, this forum software search function has problems with spaces in words).

Activecync transfers the calander, contacts, notes, mail between the phone and Microsoft Outlook as well as letting you install applications and transfer files or explore the file system on the phone.

Now there are other ways to do all of the above, just not in one program. For example I'm using an app to sync with Google calendar since I don't use MSOutlook.
