Phone is tweaking out.

Hi. So yesterday I was using my phone and forgot to charge it and it died. After i got home, I charged it and turned it on, and when I attempted to text my dad nothing happened. I created a new text, entered his name in the top, and when i tried to type the message, nothing came up. Every button but the 'End' button stopped working. I hit the end button and got back to the home screen, and everything became extremely slow.

Now, one of my thoughts might be that I have an excessive amount of texts on my phone. I have a 4gb sd card so I didn't think the number of texts would affect the phone that much. I want to try deleting the texts to see if it fixes the problem. How do I permanently delete all my texts off my phone?

Anyone know what could have happened to my phone that causes it to just stop working mid-text?
