Desktop software My Q9m Saga

I felt that I had to share this with all of you...

I am employed with a company that has a Verizon Wireless discount - 19% and every month, the Verizon employee visits on site and has all of the phones available at the Company Cafeteria. After "playing" with all of the phones available with the Rep, I decide on the Q9m simply because it fits the best in my hand and it just feels right.

My Q9m arrives at work on Tuesday. I am tickled to death and set it up to receive my Comcast email and it works just fine. I install Active Sync at home and for some reason, it won't recognize my Q9m. I then find out that my "1st" Q9m won't shut off. I then proceed to remove the battery and this is the only way that I can shut it off.

I then learn of the dreaded "Verizon Wireless" BSOD - Black Screen of Death. I can't get past the BSOD without doing a Hard Reset. I proceed to do this 3 times each night. That is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, - 3 nights and I got a bit tired of it by Thursday Night. I then walk in and receive a replacement Q9m on Friday Morning from Verizon Wireless. Four hours later, the replacement Q9m has visual problems and after getting past the "Verizon Wireless" boot up screen, it goes completely white! I bring the phone back to Verizon Wireless and they agree to give me another Q9m.

The 3rd Q9m replacement refuses to boot up and has the dreaded "Verizon Wireless" BSOD right off the bat! The Verizon Wireless employee apologizes and proceeds to go to the back room and comes back out 20 minutes later and shows that she was able to the Q9m to boot up, but admits she has grave concerns with the 3rd unit given my history and decides to get yet a 4th Q9m.

She gets the 4th Q9m and it seems to work as designed. It boots right up like it should and after taking it home, Active Sync recognizes it like a long lost friend and all is well.

I just want to point out that it is worth it to find a good Q9m and I am as happy as a Pig in BS.

All of my friends told me to pull the plug on the Q9m, but I knew once I got a hold of a good one, it can't be beat.

This phone rocks...once you get a good one.

So to those of you have gotten some lemon Q9m's, keep returning them and you will eventually get a good one and restore your belief in Motorola.

Have I told you lately that I love my Motorola Q9m?

I was in the same boat my friend... I am currently on my 3rd (for about 1 month now) and I agree.... Once you get past the lemons, and you finally get a good one, you fall in love with the phone!

And btw, Welcome to EQ!

My Q9m stopped booting after I had it for 5 hours because I had installed the Audible listener from audible.com, which went on to crash my Q9m.

Otherwise, very happy with my phone.

Mine just got it 5 minutes ago. I got it last night. I hope that I do not have a hard time exchanging it for another one.

What exactly is the issue that you are having?

If it is just unable to boot, they should beable to do a hard reset on the phone without a porblem.

Is there a way to do a hard reset on the phone without powering it on completely and without bringing it to a dealer?

I think I discovered the cause of my "DOA" Q9m's - it is the use of NewsBreak, a RSS reader, particularly when using the Yahoo! RSS feeds. I used it for the first time on Sunday night on my 4th Q9m and got the same result - a total lock up or stuck loop stating there was an error with Yahoo! and with instructions to hit "Ok" and then the error screen would immediately reappear. I was able to do a hard reset as usual because nothing else works, but I have learned my lesson, all of my programs and CAB files are on the Storage Disk, so it didn't take too long to get up and running again. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Verizon Tech Support and they in turn called Motorola and they have no record of this program causing this type of problem. Suffice to say, I am no longer going to risk running this particular program, even though the software authors and this site say it is compatible with the Q9m.

Anyone else have the same issues with the use of NewsBreak?

Perhaps someone could start a thread with what software NOT to use with the Q9m or is "Harzardous to your Q9m"

When I brought it in last night the customer service guy took one look at it and went to the back for a new phone. He said if it happens again I can get another Q or I can get a different phone as long as it is with in my 30 days. He had no idea what caused the problem and said there was no fix that they were aware of yet.
