If there was a way something like CT Scheduler could be made to do it, that would solve the freeze issue and allow you to keep predictive text enabled.
I haven't tried this. I don't want to press my luck.

thank god. i already Hard Reset my phone once about 3 week ago now and now it just started doing the same thing it was doing before. becoming ridiculously slow, eating text messages, completely locking up, ignoring keyboard presses all together, loading only programs titles, presenting a moving text bar but no letters in text messages, etc. i could go on for days. i have love my Q9m so far but i had been so frustrated with it lately i was wondering if i had made a mistake picking this when i got it in December. this fix seems to work though for right now as my phone hasnt locked up yet since i did it and text messages are flying freely.

i had actually narrowed it down to my JBed and Opera Mini programs since it seemed to do it when i forgot to kill those programs, leaving my broadband access on the whole time (or forgetting to save WordToGo docs). but after reading the fix post my phone seems to be fine. thanks for the help!

So recently I've been thinking to myself that it seems like it has been quite some time since my Q experienced any slowdown/lag issues. It has been over a month since I last had this problem. And I use my phone regularly.

I guess I pressed my luck because this morning my phone started slowing down. Predictive text is and has been off. I cleared my text messages and used SKTools Lite to clean up my temporary files and perform routine stuff, but still have this problem. The last program I installed was Opera Mini 4.0 a few days ago.

There has to be another solution other than resetting the phone. That's an option that shouldn't even be considered for a problem that is as widespread as this one. Why haven't Motorola or any of the wireless carriers looked into this issue and put out a fix?

I am sorely regretting not getting an HTC phone.

For me, it turned out to be a problem of predictive text and Pocket Player. The Q9M on has 64 MB and that app is a memory hog. I stopped using it and the phone is working like a champ again.

So, my guess, McGuirk, is that it's probably an app. How did you get Opera Mini working on your Q? Did you have to install Java on your phone? If so, this installation could indeed be the source of your problem.

Default I hope this is the permanent fix!

I have had my Q9m since September, with very few problems. Just last week, I started getting exactly the symptoms described here, but ALWAYS when I was trying to reply to a text message. Never any other time. I'd click reply, type one word or so, and then...nothing. I could sometimes get back to the home screen, and sometimes into the start menu, but I could never open task manager to try to see what was happening. Battery out was the only solution, and sometimes that worked and other times not. I've disabled the text completion now, so we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed...

You're welcome. I'm glad people are reading this. I was like many of you, tried everything, but THIS was the problem. I have NOT had any problems since I turned this monster off.

Seems to have worked for me. I haven't had a text-reply freeze in 2 weeks now. Excellent!

Probably some other app causing the problem. Do you use Windows Live Search or Yahoo Go! These apps caused my phone to behave the same way that it had with predictive text enabled. I started a thread for people to list apps that were causing problems on the device. I'll see if I can remember what I called it and where I posted it.
