Default Email Attachment Question

Have a quick question maybe someone can answer for me.

I work for an IS Department and have setup one of these phones using ActiveSync to connect to our Exchange server. When the user receives an email and chooses to download the attachment via Outlook everything is fine. But we can not find the file in the File System until it is officially Saved by clicking on the attachment and then choosing Menu -> Save As.

I contacted Motorola Support and they advised if we open the attachment as soon as it downloads, it is stored in Application Data under a Temp Folder. Once the Application was closed, the file would be removed out of the Temp folder. They claim the file is not stored in Phone Memory or SD Card or RAM (Even though its quote and quote downloaded via email)

If I turn off the Q 9m and then power it back on the file is still "downloaded" in email. Where are the files being stored on this phone when they are "Downloaded" but not saved. Reason I ask, I do not want to overload the memory on the phone. Also note, I downloaded a 2 MB file and the RAM nor the Phone Memory did not change.

Does this phone have Memory that is Hidden just for "Downloaded" files that it over writes as needed?

Thanks,
Brian

They're usually in \Windows\Messaging\Attachments

Scott,

I wish it was in the new Moto Q9m. It is just weird how I can not locate the file, its like the attachment is being stored in hidden memory that is inaccessible to a user. But I need conformation of this.

Any further help would be appreciated as Moto Support has no clue.

Thanks,
Brian

I don't know the answer to your question about the folder for attachments, but I have a suggestion for you:

do a search for storing email on the storage card with wm6. The registry entries also will create a folder on the storage card to store the attachments. I believe you could do just the registry entry for the attachments (and leave the emails themselves in the main storage area).

I've done both registry mods, and have had no problems. The folder on the storage card contains many files with names such as att12351.dat.

edit: here is the link to the storage card thread:

consequently, the exsisting Registry entry should tell you where they are stored currently.

Actually, by default there ISN'T a registry entry; you have to add a key!
