Stupid question why?

Unlocking the Q9h allows you to put any SIM in the phone you like.

If you go to Europe say and want to pay local rates you could buy a prepaid SIM and dump it in to the phone.

Is there other advantages to unlocking the Q9h?

for those of you who called AT&T and received a unlock code, who did you call Customer Care or Tech Support? How do you request this. "yes, I would like the unlock code for my phone" Is it that easy or did you have to call a number of times to get someone to help you?

I dialed 611. Just one time.

Told them I was travelling outside of the US (which I will be) and wanted it unlocked.
The rest of the story:
Eventually (helpful CSR put me on hold for "two-minutes" 3 or 4 times) we confirmed my IMIE number. This was different from their records - I bought my phone outright, without new plan. She told me I would receive an email in 6-8 business days....it came less than 24 hours later and I unlocked the phone using a friend's T-Mo SIM to initiate the function.

I wish that would ALWAYS work, but it doesn't.
ATT won't give a Canadian the code, nor would Rogers give ANYONE the code.
http://cellulargsm.net was able to get me the code right away, and i got a discount with code CGSM10
They do ALL MOTOROLA models from ANY CARRIER too!

I called ATT as well to unlock my phone and after a few questions from them, they provided my unlock code over the phone. Once I went overseas, I purchased a $12 3G SIM and popped it in.

Once you turn the phone on, you enter the unlock code, and voila, you have service. Only negative was that I could not get the data to work, even though the card said it was capable of using my prepaid minutes. The 3G would appear as well...but no luck on data.

TMO Data instructions are posted below from howardforums! This one will work with the 5.99 plan. It works on my Q9H with the TMO SIM as well and get this, he also gave instructions to setup your MMS settings too!

Thanks kmx

If you don't have the 19.99 total internet plan then, setup the first 2 profiles minus the "T-Zones" one and you should be good to go

Happy Surfing!

Now...if only we can get wifi to work hmmm....
